A Bit of Swedish Style

With most Christmas gifts delivered ...
... Flicka and I can shrug off our 007 persona and share some of our undercover work!
Let's begin with the items we made for Sister DillyDally!  We made her a "pillow quilt" ... I used "Her Majesty's" special stitch for tacking quilts!  Love the results when using that feature!

The entire DillyDally clan celebrates our nordic heritage ... Sister DD has really embraced the Swedish side of our lineage.  As a child, she attended Swedish Language camp ... spent a summer in Sweden while in high school ... studied Swedish culture in college ... yep, she is the family Swedish expert!  She has always loved Swedish Dala Horses ... has collected them for years and even made one when she was twelve!
My MIL received a pillow with a Dala Horse appliquéd on the front as a gift ... I decided Sister had to have one too!
I used her (MIL) pillow as a guide to create the applique design ... fused it in place ... and buttonhole stitched around it by machine.
I used leftover fabric from the pillow quilt to make the Dala Horse pillow's front and back.  A problem came up when I did not like the grey/silver tone of the black next to the roses.
Problem solved dillydally style ... I added a narrow cordless piping between the two black fabrics.  I applied a zipper to the bottom so it is removable for laundry purposes.
Finished pillow placed on the front side of pillow quilt that is draped over a dining room chair.
Back side of the Dala Horse pillow placed on the inside (flannel) of pillow quilt draped over dining room chair.
Yep ... I am very pleased with the results!  I foresee Many more Dala Horses galloping into my life!
Sister loved the pillow ... just as I hoped she would!  She said that it added just the bit of Swedish style her apartment needed!  Makes this Mama's heart sing!

Do what you love.  Do dillydally!
Mrs. DillyDally

  2. Beautiful! I am sure it makes you happy to have the Swedish traditions continue. I regret not learning or about my Italian heritage from my Grandfather. He was born in Monte Casino Italy and came to America with his mother.
Thank you for sharing the 007 projects that you and Flicka worked on this past season.
    Happy New Year!
