In a Week ... Oh the Places I've Been!

Sorry I've been so absent ... internet access while traveling this week has been difficult!  But that hasn't prevented me from dillydallying!  I have been busy and it will take many blog posts to cover all the dillydally fun that has happened this week!

I began this blog three years ago in order to share the Minnesota Shop Hop with the Alaskan QBees!  So the intent of this post is to just mention the shops I visited this past week.

Shops I visited in route to and from Bemidji...
Colorz for Quilts in Brainerd
Mother Originals Quilt Shop in Pequot Lakes
Ann's Quilt Cottage in Bemidji
Monika's in Park Rapids
Front Porch Quilts in Walker
Country Fabrics & Quilting in Brainerd
Shops I visited with the "Metro QBees"...
Millie P's Quilt Shop in Anoka
Bear Patch Quilting Co. in White Bear Lake
Rosebud's Cottage in White Bear Lake
Shops I visited with the "Sassy Stitchers"...
Calico Hutch Quilt Shop in Hayward
All in Stitches in Stewartville
Pine Needles Quilt & Sew in Rochester
The Quilting Cupboard in Rochester
All in Stitches in Zumbrota
Fourth & Main Fabrics in Cannon Falls
Whew!  Now you have an idea of how busy I've been!  I will write a post about each shop ... eventually!  In oder to be online, I've had to visit coffee shops with free internet ... there is only so much coffee I can drink in a day! Hee-hee!

Yep ... you have an idea of how busy I've been ... but what you may not know is how blessed I feel!  The "Metro QBees" and the "Sassy Stitchers" have inspired me in both quilting and personally.  I treasure the time I had with them and the memories we created together.  Yep ... there will be future posts about them as well.  They shared their time and talents with me ... I am so touched by such generosity!
Do what you love.  Share.  Do dillydally!

Urban Living I

I'm enjoying my time in Minneapolis ... I just love the urban lifestyle when I come visit Sister DillyDally!
Grandkitty Peder ( Mr. NaughtyPants) was happy to see me. ;-)  He loves the balcony that came with his new apartment!  I got in about 6:00 pm on Wednesday ... we went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner ... so we could get a piece of cheesecake to have for breakfast the next day!  I cannot think of a better reason to go there!  Can you?
After our breakfast of coffee and cheesecake ... we were off to have some pretty paint put on our toes!  My feet were so happy ... pedicures are a great way to dillydally with your daughter!
Going to the movies together is an event for DillyDally family members!  When my children were little ... growing up in a remote area ... they equated going to the movies with visiting Disneyland!  Sister DD introduced me to "Adult Only" movies ... no, silly ... not the X-rated kind!  The ones where you can order adult beverages and "real" food.  We had Bacon Popcorn with our beverages ... holy moly hot bologna ... it is too good to be true!  You have to try it!  Dillydally delicious!
View from her apartment...with coffee and leftover cheesecake!
I'm doing everything I can to soak up this time I have with my daughter!  It is so fun to dillydally with her!
Do what you love.  Do dillydally!

It's a Win/Win Day in Dillydallydom!

First...let me begin by saying a huge and heartfelt thank you for taking the time to visit my mostly nonfunsense here in blogland!
These beverage cozies will be reminding ... drumroll please ... Jo ... to dillydally everyday!  Please email me your snailmail address, and these will be arriving in the very near future!  I have no idea where Jo lives...so it will be fun to see where the cozies will be traveling!  Congratulations Jo ... and thanks to everyone who commented ... it so fun to hear from you all!

OK ... the drawing was the first win today ... here is the second!
This evening I will be joining  ... this kitty ... on this bench ... with Sister DillyDally!  Yep ... I am currently on my way to Minneapolis!  I'm actually at my flight gate in Seattle as I post this!

Thanks again for visiting this humble blog!  Have a wonderful dillydally day!
Do what you love!  Make it win/win!  Do dillydally!

Another Serving of Buzz Cut!

The adventure with the Buzz Cut pattern continues!  Time for a second serving!
There are many things about teaching that I love ... one of them is that it forces me as the instructor to work double-time!  I have to make a sample to advertise the class and then make another simutaneously during the class to demonstrate!  Here Flicka is hindering helping me cut background strips.  I chose a light aqua solid fabric for the background on this version.
I made the first one in very traditional fabrics and colors.  It will be a gift and needed to fit into a "lodge" themed decor.
In an effort to show the diversity of this pattern, I chose fabric with a more contemporary theme, Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille.
http://www.the-teachers-pet.com/tpindex.html
Instead of choosing five fabrics, I decided to use jelly roll strips.  In order to get all the pieces necessary for one block, I needed to have two strips of each fabric ... which meant I purchased two jelly rolls.  ;-)  But as my regular readers know ... I love leftovers!
Using the jelly rolls meant that every block would be made with a different print!  On a side note ... that Moda twill tape that is just too nice to throw away?  Kittens love it!  Thank you Moda!  Another wonderful reason to like precuts!
Piecing thirty blocks is more exhausting than I realized!  ;-)
The blocks were packed for class ... guess who wanted to go along?  What a silly cat ... she sure fits right in around here!
Here Flicka is checking my layout ...
... she thought about it ...
...and immediately started rearranging them!  Too fun! ;-) I learned early on with our beloved Teacup to lay blocks out on batting!
Yep ... she was very comfortable with her choices.  What a hoot!
Who knew that good grooming was such an important part of piecing a quilt top together?  I am learning new things on a daily basis! ;-)
Bet you also were unaware that quilt tops are meant for playing "hide n' seek"?  We love how Flicka thinks that if she can't see us ... we're unable to see her!  Just like a toddler!
And ... like a two-year-old, she cannot wait to be found and exposes herself!  Such a wing nut!

With all this supervision and assistance ... it is a wonder that I get anything accomplished!  ;-)  On this version ... I placed a narrow strip of the background fabric for the first border ... so the the blocks would float.  Then finished it off with a large red print.  Am in love with the results ... a very different look from my first version.  I find patterns that are versatile like this one to be very inspiring!  And I love the challenge of trying different versions of the same design!  What a wonderful way to dillydally!
Do what you love.  Have second servings.  Do dillydally!

Don't forget to leave a comment ... these little treasures from dillydallydom could be traveling to your corner of the planet!  Have a great dillydally week!

QBee and Me Birthday Party!

Those of you who have visited dillydallydom often, know that we QBees...

...love to celebrate birthdays!  One thing our age has taught us is to have FUN ... it is the dillydally way!
Julie and I have July birthdays ... this year we decided to host our own party ... at Lila's new quilt shop, Cordova Quilters' Hideout!
Julie chose a project from the Moda Bake Shop and taught all of us how to make one!
We treated the project like a mystery...they were given a supply list and no other hints!  Here is Marie with her folded star!
Yep ... as always we were silly the entire evening!  ;-) Wish you could hear Val's giggle!
Love the soft colors in Terry's ... sew fun to see how they came out ... no one knew what they were making when they chose the fabrics!
Loved the "harvest" color of Barb's star!
Lila's star came out just as cheerful as she is!  Sew cute!
Diane used her signature color ... purple ... in a very striking way!
Here is mine!  Yep ... very unusual fabric and color choices for me!  The pattern and instructions are for a pot holder and can be found here.  We came up with many other things it could be made into!  Believe me ... as a group of women ... we never lack for ideas!
Here is Julie's tool cup cozy ... made with Minnesota Shop Hop 2011 fabrics, of course.  Julie is the last QBee in the cycle of gifts ... they all have one of these now!  Knowing that ... makes me smile.

It was so fun ... just to sit and sew with friends.  Our lives pull us in so many different directions ... I treasure the time we spend together.  A wonderful way to celebrate my birthday!
Do what you love.  Celebrate with friends!  Do dillydally!
