Another Serving of Buzz Cut!

The adventure with the Buzz Cut pattern continues!  Time for a second serving!
There are many things about teaching that I love ... one of them is that it forces me as the instructor to work double-time!  I have to make a sample to advertise the class and then make another simutaneously during the class to demonstrate!  Here Flicka is hindering helping me cut background strips.  I chose a light aqua solid fabric for the background on this version.
I made the first one in very traditional fabrics and colors.  It will be a gift and needed to fit into a "lodge" themed decor.
In an effort to show the diversity of this pattern, I chose fabric with a more contemporary theme, Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille.

Instead of choosing five fabrics, I decided to use jelly roll strips.  In order to get all the pieces necessary for one block, I needed to have two strips of each fabric ... which meant I purchased two jelly rolls.  ;-)  But as my regular readers know ... I love leftovers!
Using the jelly rolls meant that every block would be made with a different print!  On a side note ... that Moda twill tape that is just too nice to throw away?  Kittens love it!  Thank you Moda!  Another wonderful reason to like precuts!
Piecing thirty blocks is more exhausting than I realized!  ;-)
The blocks were packed for class ... guess who wanted to go along?  What a silly cat ... she sure fits right in around here!
Here Flicka is checking my layout ...
... she thought about it ...
...and immediately started rearranging them!  Too fun! ;-) I learned early on with our beloved Teacup to lay blocks out on batting!
Yep ... she was very comfortable with her choices.  What a hoot!
Who knew that good grooming was such an important part of piecing a quilt top together?  I am learning new things on a daily basis! ;-)
Bet you also were unaware that quilt tops are meant for playing "hide n' seek"?  We love how Flicka thinks that if she can't see us ... we're unable to see her!  Just like a toddler!
And ... like a two-year-old, she cannot wait to be found and exposes herself!  Such a wing nut!

With all this supervision and assistance ... it is a wonder that I get anything accomplished!  ;-)  On this version ... I placed a narrow strip of the background fabric for the first border ... so the the blocks would float.  Then finished it off with a large red print.  Am in love with the results ... a very different look from my first version.  I find patterns that are versatile like this one to be very inspiring!  And I love the challenge of trying different versions of the same design!  What a wonderful way to dillydally!
Do what you love.  Have second servings.  Do dillydally!

QBee and Me Birthday Party!

Those of you who have visited dillydallydom often, know that we QBees...

...love to celebrate birthdays!  One thing our age has taught us is to have FUN ... it is the dillydally way!
Julie and I have July birthdays ... this year we decided to host our own party ... at Lila's new quilt shop, Cordova Quilters' Hideout!
Julie chose a project from the Moda Bake Shop and taught all of us how to make one!
We treated the project like a mystery...they were given a supply list and no other hints!  Here is Marie with her folded star!
Yep ... as always we were silly the entire evening!  ;-) Wish you could hear Val's giggle!
Love the soft colors in Terry's ... sew fun to see how they came out ... no one knew what they were making when they chose the fabrics!
Loved the "harvest" color of Barb's star!
Lila's star came out just as cheerful as she is!  Sew cute!
Diane used her signature color ... purple ... in a very striking way!
Here is mine!  Yep ... very unusual fabric and color choices for me!  The pattern and instructions are for a pot holder and can be found here.  We came up with many other things it could be made into!  Believe me ... as a group of women ... we never lack for ideas!
Here is Julie's tool cup cozy ... made with Minnesota Shop Hop 2011 fabrics, of course.  Julie is the last QBee in the cycle of gifts ... they all have one of these now!  Knowing that ... makes me smile.

It was so fun ... just to sit and sew with friends.  Our lives pull us in so many different directions ... I treasure the time we spend together.  A wonderful way to celebrate my birthday!
Do what you love.  Celebrate with friends!  Do dillydally!

Buzz Cut Fun!

Remember this class sample?  It was Flicka's first quilt.  Check out the details on this post.
The pattern and instructions come from this new book by Kathy Brown.

I used this pattern to teach both beginning and intermediate quilters the basics of cutting fabric...
...as well as piecing techniques using the Angler 2 ... it improves accuracy and saves time!

Meet Tiffany and look at her progress...
... her final layout.  Borders to be determined later.  I have known Tiffany since her childhood ... what an honor to watch her grow... as an individual and a quilter!

Jeannie is very new to quilting so she chose to make a smaller, table top sized quilt.
It was great to watch her confidence and enthusiasm grow during each class session!  Jeannie even began another project this past weekend!  You go girl!

It is always great fun having a close friend participate in a class I'm teaching ...
Terry has been quilting for some time now, but remains open minded to learning new tips and techniques.  Here she is auditioning multiple border options.  I sew enjoy the time Terry and I spend together!

There are so many things about teaching I find rewarding!   It is a privilege to share what I love with others!
Do what you love.  Share it!  Do dillydally!
