Cordova Quilters' Hideout!

Yesterday was a big day for many reasons!
QBee Lila opened her new quilt shop ... Cordova  Quilters' Hideout!  She began working on this dream last summer on our Minnesota Shop Hop tour.  She took extensive notes on all 24 shops we visited.  And has been working on establishing her own shop ever since!  Not all of the fabric and notions have arrived yet ... shipping to our remote corner of the planet is an issue ... but she decided it was time to open anyway!  We are so happy she did!
She is carrying Fig Tree's California Girl fabric line.  With springs late arrival here in Cordova, this fabric is especially refreshing!
QBee Val made this applique' sample and will be teaching classes on multiple applique' techniques!
To show case the fabric we made several samples.  Val made the childrens apron and Terry made the table topper.
My samples for this line included the adult apron, table topper, purse and cup cozy.  Finally, I can prove that I have been "doing something"! ;-)  We dillydalliers are always busy ... doing something!
Val made the feature quilt using a jelly roll and charm square pack.  Linee did the machine quilting.  We are all impressed with the results!
Lila will also be carrying Thimbleberries fabric and patterns.  Yep, we're excited!

Val made the applique' table topper and the placemats.  Terry B. made the table runner.  We all love how versatile Thimbleberries fabric is ... not to mention the quality ... it is amazing!
Another purse and cup cozy were my contribution to the Thimbleberries sample collection.
Lila's husband, Mr. Hideout was in charge of decorating for the grand opening!
QBee Diane made and decorated not only one...
... but two beautiful and delicious cakes to celebrate.  Punch was also served!
It was a fun and busy day!
Local quilters even brought in projects that were in progress ...

... for show and tell and to purchase the needed supplies to finish them!
Yep ... the fun at the Hideout has begun!  Congratulations Lila!  Dreams do come true!

Do what you love!  Dream!   Do dillydally!

Dillydallying on the Job!

Last week was filled with graduation activities here in my remote corner of the planet.

It is a crazy time of the year for us school teachers, I had an event or some type of obligation every evening!  Again ... it is crazy, but great!
Friday, May 18th was spent dillydallying with students 20 some miles out the road.  One of my fellow teachers and I feel that it is important to reward the kids by getting them out to enjoy the nature that surrounds us.
We took them hiking...
... did a lot of bird watching ...

... and participated in some serious camp cooking!  Yep, it included the first smores of the year!
We were happy that we had required them to bring boots, hats, coats and mittens!
As you can see ... it is far from green here in our remote corner of the planet!  How I treasure spending time like this with students ... the types of learning that takes place cannot be measured!  It was a wonderful day for everyone!

Our seniors graduated on Saturday ... this week is the last for students ... then a week of inservice training for teachers!  On the evening of June 1st, my full-time summer dillydallying will begin!
Supervisor Flicka and I have big dillydally plans!  Stay tuned! ;-)
Do what you love.  Do dillydally!

Spring Arrives in My Remote Corner of the Planet!

Sunday, Mother's Day looked like this...
... Mother Nature gifted us with rain, sleet, snow and high winds.  Hearts were heavy...
...Monday morning the clouds began to break up ... yep, that is fresh snow on the mountains!  After our very difficult winter, everyone needs the hope that comes with spring ... however, Mother Nature continues to mess with our heads and our hearts.
By Tuesday, the skies had cleared!  This is all that remains of the ice on the lake!
The photo in the Header of this blog was taken May 1st ... this is the same view 15 days later ... even though spring's arrival appears late, here is visual proof that it is happening! ;-)

Mother Nature can go ahead and dish out whatever she wants ... but below the waters of Prince William Sound spring is happening!

Today our commercial fisherman begin harvesting our infamous Copper River Salmon!  The Reds and Kings have arrived!  Yep ... spring is here!
Do what you love.  Eat salmon.  Do dillydally!

Oh Brother DillyDally, the Places You'll Go!

This post includes excerpts from Oh, the Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss.
Kindergarten
Congratulations!  Today is your day!  You're off to Great Places!  You're off and away!
You have brains in your head.  You have feet in your shoes.  You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You're on your own.  And you know what you know.  And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.
You'll look up and down streets.  Look 'em over with care.  About some you will say, "I don't choose to go there."  With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet, you're too smart to go down any not-so-good street.
Brother with Sister DillyDally
You'll be on your way up!  You'll be seeing great sights!  You'll join the high fliers who soar to high heights!
Brother with Girlfriend DillyDally
You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.  You'll (both) pass the whole gang and you'll (both) soon take the lead.
Brother DillyDally with Nana
Wherever you fly, you'll be best of the best.  Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
Celebrating with the DillyDally cousins
On you will go though the weather be foul.  On you will go though your enemies prowl.  On you will go though the Hakken-Kraks howl.  Onward up many a frightening creek, though your arms may get sore and your sneakers may leak.

On and on you will hike, and I know you'll hike far and face up to your problems whatever they are.

You'll get mixed up, of course, as you already know.  You'll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go.  So be sure when you step.

Step with care and great tact and remember that Life's a Great Balancing Act.  Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.  And never mix up your right foot with your left.

And will you succeed?  Yes!  You will, indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!

So...
be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea,
You're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So...get on your way!

Congratulations Brother DillyDally!  Enjoy the journey!  We look forward to all the places you'll go!  We're so happy for you!

And remember Son ... do what you love ... do dillydally along the way!
Love, Mom

An Escape!

This is what I woke up to Wednesday morning...
... Mother Nature has a wicked sense of humor ...
... believe me ... she was the only one who thought it was funny!  We are done with snow here in my remote corner of the planet!  Or so we thought! ;-)  Everyone is feeling the need to escape ... including me!
I knew this woman would help me out ... so I am visiting her ... in her hometown!  Yep ... I'm currently in Seattle!
And this guy ... no, not the one in the rocking chair ... the one who's image is on the plane!  He is helping me escape to Minnesota for the weekend!
My DillyDally Dude is graduating from college on Sunday!  It sure was nice of him to provide me with a legitimate reason to escape the very late arrival of spring in my remote corner of the world!
Do what you love.  Escape when you need to.  Do dillydally!
